Krzysztof Biegański - Bikejoring

Krzysztof Biegański is a competitor in the exciting discipline of Bikejoring, a thrilling branch of dog sledding sports.

Bikejoring, which involves individual time trials in outdoor terrain, is Krzysztof's passion. In this discipline, the athlete rides a mountain bike alongside his dog, who is fitted with a special harness and attached to the bike with an elastic line. Together, they tackle a designated course, aiming for the shortest possible time.

While it may seem straightforward, the key to success lies in the details. Bikejoring distances range from 3 to 7 kilometers, depending on the temperature—shorter distances in warmer conditions and longer ones in colder weather. Achieving the fastest time requires maximum effort, allowing the dog to run at higher speeds for longer durations. Throughout the race, Krzysztof maintains a heart rate of 180-190 beats per minute.

Bikejoring competitions take place over two days and consist of two stages. The winner is the team with the lowest total time across both stages. Speeds range from 33 to 37 km/h, with downhill sections reaching up to 50 km/h, making these races not only challenging but also incredibly exhilarating.

A key partner for Krzysztof in these races is his dog, Greyster. This mixed breed combines elements of a German Shorthaired Pointer, Greyhound, and Pointer and may also include a touch of Alaskan Husky. Greysters are currently regarded as the fastest dogs for sprint distances, like Bikejoring.

Krzysztof’s team currently consists of two dogs. Kluska, a 2-year-and-7-month-old from Slovakia (Lara x Frodo), is a seasoned athlete, while 5-month-old Śliwka from the Czech Republic (Rafiki x Nino) is still in the learning phase, observing Kluska as she prepares for her first training session.

Krzysztof boasts an impressive track record in Bikejoring, including:

  • 2022 Polish Vice Championship
  • Victory in the overall classification of the Polish Cup 2022/2023
  • Numerous podium finishes in various rounds of the Polish Cup

Currently, Krzysztof and his loyal dog Kluska are gearing up for the World Championships in picturesque Leipzig, Germany. This is just the beginning of their sporting challenges, as they also plan to compete in local Dog Sledding events in Szamotuły, near Poznań, and participate in the Polish Championships.

Krzysztof relies on his mountain bike for these athletic endeavours, where the bike's lightweight is crucial, as every gram impacts performance. Beyond Bikejoring, he also seeks to participate in other cycling competitions, but his primary focus remains on his passion. It’s a demanding sport that requires many hours each week for both training himself and his dog.
